Better Living, Inc. Chooses Mathers Construction Team to Construct New “Green” Production
Facility/Warehouse in Fluvanna County
(Waynesboro, VA) Better Living, Inc.
selected Mathers Construction Team to serve as general contractor for a new 25,000 s.f. millwork production facility and warehouse located at the Better Living Business Park
at Zion Crossroads in Fluvanna County, Virginia. The architectural firm for the project is The Gaines Group PLC of Charlottesville, Va.
Better Living, Inc. is utilizing
several LEED building strategies to optimize energy usage and reduce their carbon footprint. The InspireTM solar collector wall cladding system provides pre-heated air for facility ventilation which reduces heating expenses and provides ventilation during summer months. Fifty-six skylights will provide “free” solar illumination year-round, reducing electricity demand. The facility will have a unique, underground rain collection system, which will be used for the building sprinkler system. This “Green” system helps reduce water runoff and eases community water resource demands.
The building will also feature
cast-in-place concrete walls. The concrete “mass walls” use less energy to heat and cool than similarly insulated wood or steel-frame buildings; and can help
increase a building’s sustainability ratings.
Brad Nichols, Mathers’ President
and CEO notes: “As a member of the Virginia Chapter of United States Green Building Council, it is exciting to play an important role in Better Living’s efforts to
build with sustainability in mind- it’s good for the valley and the nation.”
The project is in progress. Julie
Phillips is the Project Manager; Kenny Rhoades is the Project Superintendent. Completion is planned for spring, 2009.
